Some art makes you stop and stare.
Some art makes you feel.
And some art feels like it came straight out of a dream.
That’s exactly what we felt when we first discovered Kalinina—an illustrator whose work is soft, nostalgic, and filled with just the right amount of magic. We knew we had to bring her world to life in a way you could step into it.
So we did. 🎨 Introducing: Color by Kalinina, a new paint-by-numbers collection where soft pastels, gentle skies, and storybook characters meet your imagination.
To celebrate, we asked Kalinina all the dreamy, curious, and heartwarming questions we could think of. Here’s what she shared with us.
☀️ What first sparked your love for art?
Kalinina:
I can’t really remember a time before art—it’s always been there. Both of my parents are artists, so creativity was just part of the air I breathed. I used to draw on everything. Eventually, my dad built me a special wall where I could doodle freely. I guess you could say I was raised on imagination.
🌈 How did your magical style come to be?
Kalinina:
It grew little by little. Through art school, I experimented with all sorts of materials and techniques. I’ve always been drawn to soft visuals—things that feel like a memory or a fairytale. I love Japanese animation, old Disney movies, and Korean comics… those definitely shaped the way I see the world.
☕ Do you have a creative ritual?
Kalinina:
Yes! It’s very gentle. I need sunlight, a cup of coffee, and something sweet—usually chocolate. It’s not a rule, just a mood. Once I have those, I settle in and let my thoughts wander.
🌱 What would you say to someone who’s too shy to share their art?
Kalinina:
Oh, I want to hug them.
It’s okay to be shy. But the world needs your softness. You never know who might need the exact feeling your art gives. Don’t wait until it’s “perfect.” There’s beauty in where you are right now.
✏️ What inspired you to start The Drawing Club?
Kalinina:
I wanted a cozy space where artists could feel safe and supported. Not judged. Not compared. Just together. I started it on Instagram, and it’s grown into a warm, encouraging little community. I’m so proud of everyone in it. You can see it on Instagram - @kkkalinina.art
🎨 What makes Color by Kalinina special to you?
Kalinina:
It feels like a piece of my heart. I’ve always dreamed of creating something people could color or paint themselves. With this collection, people can step into my world—brushstroke by brushstroke. That makes me feel so connected to them.
🌧 What do you do when you're not feeling inspired?
Kalinina:
I let myself play. I draw without pressure or rules. Sometimes, I just scribble. And usually, that little spark finds me again in the process.
🧡 How has building an art community changed your life?
Kalinina:
It’s given my art more purpose. Seeing people connect, create, and grow together makes everything brighter. It’s not just about my art anymore—it’s about ours.
🎒 Can we get a little sneak peek of something new?
Kalinina:
Yes! I just launched a collection of illustrated keychains—my nephew is obsessed with them and wears about six at a time 😄 You can find them on Etsy under TKKKartist. They’re tiny pieces of joy you can carry with you.
✨ Last question: what’s a dream you’re still holding onto?
Kalinina:
I’d love to create a fully illustrated storybook based on my dreams. I write them down in a little notebook next to my bed. One day, I hope to turn them into something people can hold and get lost in.
